Are Shoppers Running Out of Gas? Pain at the pump could alter consumer spending.

It costs 30 cents more one week; 40 cents more the next. Before you know it, consumers are spending $60 a week — $240 a month — to fill up the gas tank of their mid-size sedans and are reminiscing about the good old days — like way back in March, when a gallon of gas cost an average of about $2.60. With per-gallon prices now at or above $3 in many parts of the country, there are signals that often-impulsive shoppers are dangerously close to running out of gas.

Online Sales to Surpass $200 Billion This Year, According to Shop.Org/Forrester Study
WASHINGTON, May 23, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) — After speeding past the $100-billion mark just three years ago, online sales will top $200 billion this year. According to The 2006 State of Retailing Online, the ninth annual Shop.org study conducted by Forrester Research, Inc. (NasdaqNM:FORR - News) of 174 retailers, 2006 online sales (including travel) are expected to rise 20 percent to $211.4 billion. Sales excluding travel will reach $138 billion.
